Life Release of Goats in Bhutan

August 20, 2009

On 25th July 2009 the Bhutanese sangha along with some other genuine contributors bought five goats from a family at Babesa Village.

The day was very bright and the gaudy sun had started to spread its rays over Thimphu town. On the very auspicious day of the First Sermon of Lord Buddha, we bought five goats and then transported them from Babesa village to the Thimphu town.

We took the harmless goats to His Eminence Thuksey Rinpoche’s residence. His Eminence Thuksey Rinpoche recited mantras for long life and offered white scarfs (tashi Khadars) to the goats.

We were all excited to release these innocent animals and although the goats could not express themselves with words, we could feel their happiness, especially when the youngest goat who was completely white, made humble cries and played with the other adults.

At that moment we were all spell bound and felt how fulfilling it was for us to contribute in life release with the spirit of Live to Love. We the Sangha of Bhutan have immense faith and dedicate these merits of life release for the long life and good health of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and all the Drukpa Masters.

The goats were then taken to a monastery in Wangduephodrang where they would be taken care of by a family. It is a general belief among the Bhutanese that rearing goats would bring good fortune for the family enhancing the wellbeing of the cattles.
